Homemade Chicken and Noodles Recipe with Knorr Homestyle Chicken Stock

Noodles are among our favorite dishes that start with the letter N. One of those comfort meals that I make for our family multiple times a year, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas, is a bowl of chicken and noodles. Usually, I use the leftover chicken broth from roasting or boiling the chicken to make my noodles. However, I recently found Knorr Homestyle Chicken Stock, which is a great substitute for homemade chicken when I don’t have enough high-quality broth for the recipe. Our Blogging from A to Z challenge contribution for letter N is our Homemade Chicken and Noodles recipe.

Ingredients for Homemade Chicken and Noodles

  • 1 c. Milk
  • 6 c. hot water
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 c. vegetable broth
  • 2 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 tsp.  Poultry Seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter or Margarine
  • 1/8 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 tub Knorr Homestyle Chicken Stock
  • 1 16 oz. Package No-Yolk Medium Egg Noodles or a pound of noodles of your choice
  • 1 c. Chicken, cooked and shredded (This is a great use for leftover Rotisserie chicken too!)

Instructions for Homemade Chicken and Noodles.

Get the chicken broth ready. In a big saucepan used to boil the noodles, dissolve one container of Knorr Homestyle Chicken Stock by adding six cups of boiling water to it. When almost completely dissolved, stir in the vegetable broth and heat until it reaches a rolling boil over medium heat.

Prepare the noodles. When the broth is boiling, add the noodles and cook them as directed on the package.

Save the broth and set aside the noodles. Using a slotted spoon, remove the noodles from the broth and place them in a bowl to be used later to make the creamy sauce. Set aside two and a half cups of the cooking liquid for the sauce.

Get the cream sauce ready. In a big, nonstick pot, melt the butter. Add the black pepper and flour. Cook until flour is just beginning to brown, one to two minutes. Add the two cups of boiling broth that you set aside. Cook the mixture, stirring, over medium heat until it thickens. Stir in the remaining 1/2 cup broth and 1 cup milk. The sauce should be cooked, stirring constantly, until it becomes bubbling and slightly thickened. Add the poultry seasoning and stir. Take the sauce off of the hob.

Mix the sauce, chicken, and noodles. Till the noodles are wet and coated with sauce, gently toss them with the sauce. Add the chicken, then finish with a dash of freshly ground black pepper. Warm up and serve.

Disclaimer: Knorr and Smiley360 sent me a complimentary sample of Knorr Homestyle Chicken Stock to try in my home. I did not receive anything for this post, and the brand did not influence my choice to suggest using this product in this recipe.
