🧂 Ingredients

  • 1 lb (454 g) fresh strawberries, hulled (about 20 medium berries)
  • 2 cups (300 g) seedless green grapes
  • 12 oz (340 g) white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate bar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vegetable shortening or coconut oil
  • 48 mini chocolate chips (about 2 tbsp)
  • 12 wooden skewers, 6-inch (15 cm)
  • Pinch of fine sea salt
  • Optional: 2 tbsp crushed graham crackers or cookie crumbs

📋 Instructions

  1. 1Prep the fruit — Wash the strawberries and grapes, then dry them thoroughly with paper towels until no moisture remains. Hull the strawberries and leave the grapes whole.
  2. 2Set up your station — Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set out the mini chocolate chips in a small bowl. Slide one strawberry or two grapes onto each skewer, leaving a small handle at the bottom.
  3. 3Melt the chocolate — Place the white chocolate and shortening in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of barely simmering water at 110 F (43 C), stirring constantly for 4 to 5 minutes until smooth and fluid. Alternatively microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, for about 1 minute total.
  4. 4Dip the ghosts — Hold each skewer by the handle and dip the fruit into the white chocolate, turning to coat about three-quarters of the way up. Let the excess drip back into the bowl for a second.
  5. 5Add the eyes — Lay the dipped skewer on the parchment and immediately press two mini chocolate chips into the coating for eyes. Work quickly while the surface is still tacky.
  6. 6Chill to set — Slide the tray into the refrigerator for 10 to 12 minutes, until the coating is fully set and feels firm and dry to the touch, not tacky.
  7. 7Finish and serve — Sprinkle a little crushed graham cracker under each ghost if you like, then arrange the skewers upright on a platter. Serve chilled or at cool room temperature.
👨‍🍳 Chef's Note: If your kitchen runs warm, chill the empty baking sheet for 10 minutes before you start dipping; the coating sets faster and the ghosts keep their clean shape.
