🧂 Ingredients
- 18 large marshmallows (about 150g)
- 2 cups (300g) strawberries, hulled
- 2 cups (300g) cantaloupe, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup (150g) green grapes
- 1 cup (140g) pineapple chunks, drained if canned
- 24 fresh blueberries
- 1 small carrot, peeled into thin slivers
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
- 12 wooden skewers (8-inch)
📋 Instructions
- 1Prep and chill the fruit — Hull and halve the strawberries, cube the melon, and drain the pineapple. Toss the cut fruit with the lemon juice in a large bowl and chill it for 15 minutes, which firms everything up for easier skewering.
- 2Soak the skewers — Submerge the wooden skewers in a shallow dish of water for 10 minutes. This keeps them from charring if you broil the marshmallows later.
- 3Thread the base fruit — Slide a strawberry onto each skewer first, cut side up, then add a melon cube and a grape. Push each piece snugly but not so hard that it cracks.
- 4Add the marshmallow head — Push one large marshmallow onto the top of each skewer, stopping about a half-inch from the tip. This is the blank canvas for your face.
- 5Broil for a golden blush — Set the oven to broil at 500°F (260°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment. Lay the skewers flat and broil 30 to 45 seconds, until the marshmallows turn golden brown and smell toasty; pull them the second you see the tops bubble.
- 6Cool and decorate — Let the skewers sit 2 minutes so the marshmallows set slightly. Press two blueberries in for eyes, then add a carrot sliver nose and a small strawberry slice smile.
- 7Serve cold and proud — Arrange the finished faces on a chilled platter and serve within an hour. If you are not broiling, skip straight from threading to decorating and serve immediately.
👨🍳 Chef's Note: A strawberry slice smile stays put best when you press it into the warm marshmallow within a minute of broiling, while the surface is still tacky.
